Yahoo! Japan To Replace Search Engine With Google...

Yes, you read that right.

In a press release earlier this week (see below), Yahoo! Japan announced that it will replace its own search engine with Google's.  Company representatives said that Yahoo will instead focus on content, auctions and shopping, while Google will power both search and advertising (via AdSense).

It's no secret that Yahoo! is moving away from search for searching's sake and instead to content, espcially local news.  It acquired Associated Content for $100 million a few months ago and is using search query volume to help determine editorial coverage. But getting into bed with Google?  Is this a sign of what's to come elsewhere?
