I decided to bring you the link to the Report-IT Live app the second I heard the sound quality difference between this app and a straight cell phone call.

Call me a skeptic. Andrew Phillip’s report at Nieman Journalism Lab talked about how the app stumped NPR’s director of operation when he heard reports from Time Square on May 1.  But I wouldn’t just take his word for it, even though he is obviously more qualified than I to make these calls.

Developer Tieline’s website explains in depth how the codec app works, which I will confess went over my head on the first reading. But then I’d already heard the product in action, so I already knew it wasn’t important for me to explain this technology — I just have to use it.
