Military Apps, Coming to a Smartphone Near You

This month, Knowledgewebb is launching a 30 percent membership discount code for a new audience: active and veteran members of the military.

Before I break my hand patting myself on the back, we apparently aren’t the only ones who want to work with this audience. The US Army says it will open its own store in August where soldiers can download things like training manuals and productivity tools to their phones. Word has it that terrain mapping, identifying friendly forces (damn, how are they doing that now, that they admit they need iPhone assistance? The things I come up with to ponder just before falling asleep ...) and foreign language translation will follow.

But here’s what I find odd: it’s being reported that the initial store will sell 17 apps for Android and only 16 apps for iPhone. This has to be the first time Apple hasn’t had the lion’s share of anything related to apps. It gets still stranger. According to the Telegraph reporters in London, “the US government has not yet certified any mobile device as secure enough to access its networks. The US National Institute of Standards and Technology has begun certifying the iPhone but is still months away from finishing. No Android handsets have even begun the process yet.”

So just in case August is a pipe dream, veterans, let’s make it clear that the Knowledgewebb discount for digital training is up and running at this second. Guess we have something to brag about after all. Email me at sales (at) knowledgewebb.net for the magic code.
