I remember:

  Being very new to the job

  One night, not knowing where to start. Remember, there was no Google or Bing in those days.

  Deciding who should be called first, second and third.

  Finding a dead end with #1.

  Calling #2 and getting a referral. The referral was in fact, my option #3.

  Deciding what to ask before calling option #3.

  Calling option #3 and getting (yet another) phone number from option #3.

  Calling that phone number and getting the "handler" to put my call through.

  Hearing a "Hello?" from the Commander of the Philippine military whom the handler pulled out of a meeting.

  Putting the Commander live on the air in the middle of a coup d'etat in Manilla during the summer of 1987.

  A gift of gab can work in your favor. Choose your use of it wisely.
